Port of Tauranga Handles Special Cargo
A very special cargo was transhipped at the Port of Tauranga's container terminal this weekend in the form of the Emirates Team New Zealand (ETNZ) America's cup contender "Aotearoa".
The catamaran and it's "wings" were transhipped from Ports of Auckland on the Maersk Jubail and reloaded on to the Pescara which is carrying this delicate shipment to Oakland in San Francisco Bay.
Port of Tauranga Opens Expanded Container Terminal
Port of Tauranga today officially opened a major expansion of its container terminal facilities.
The Port, New Zealand's largest, has expanded its container wharf length by nearly a third, installed a new Super-Post Panamax gantry crane and ancillary equipment, and grown its landside cargo capacity.
Port of Tauranga gains approval for harbour dredging
Port of Tauranga has today received final approval from the Minister of Conservation for its plans to widen and deepen shipping channels, to accommodate larger ships.
Port of Tauranga Chief Executive, Mark Cairns, welcomed the news, saying the benefits to the New Zealand economy from the ability to accommodate larger vessels would be widespread and significant.
