Dangerous Goods Information

The Port of Tauranga Hazardous Substances and Dangerous Goods Code of Practice has been developed to comply with current legislation and to provide our customers with a quick reference guide.

This code provides fast and easy access to Port of Tauranga’s requirements for the handling and facilitating of the movement of hazardous commodities.

This quick reference guide relates to Tauranga Container Terminal at Sulphur Point, MetroPort in Auckland and the wharves at Mount Maunganui.

Hazardous Substances Code of Practice

The Tauranga Harbourmaster and the Port of Tauranga Operations Manager are to be notified in advance by the owners or agents of any vessel which intends to visit the Port of Tauranga carrying Class 1 or Class 5.1 Dangerous Goods: Email the Tauranga Habourmaster and the Port of Tauranga Operations Manager using this link haz@port-tauranga.co.nz There are wharf/berth limits for both these classes that are detailed in:

MetroPort Rail Link

All classes of dangerous goods except Class 1 (however Class 1.4S and 1.4G are permissible) may be conveyed on Freight and Express Freight Trains as long the hazardous paperwork has been provided for the container and it is correct and complete.
