Port of Tauranga donates to the Christchurch Earthquake Relief Fund

Posted on 28th February 2011

Port of Tauranga Limited Directors have resolved to donate $100,000 to the Christchurch Earthquake Mayoral Relief Fund. Many of the Port's staff also wish to contribute and the Company has agreed to match their contributions dollar for dollar.

Commenting on the move, Chairman John Parker said: "As the extent of the disaster has unfolded, it has become apparent just how wide the impact of this tragic event really is.

We are offering practical support in our Container Terminal by storing containers unable to be discharged directly at Lyttelton. However this is a small gesture in the scheme of things and we will offer any other assistance we can if our help is needed.

We hope our donation can be used more directly to help relieve the suffering of the people affected and will go some way to rebuilding shattered lives, communities and businesses in Christchurch and the Canterbury region.

Our thoughts are with all of those who have suffered loss in this tragedy."
