Ship Tracking
Not all ships can be tracked by the public. The easiest way to find the location of a ship is when it transmits a weather report. A marine weather reporting website can be used to find a ship's location as it reports in.
The weather reporting website requires either the ships name, or its radio call sign to locate the ship.
Unfortunately for us, ships change their names far more often than you would think, so using their radio call sign is a much more reliable way of identifying a ship.
The ship's call sign can often be found on the shipping company's website, on the page that gives details about each vessel. If the company does not give out this information, then you can sometimes find it on the International Telecommunications Union website. If you can't locate a call sign for your ship, choose the next scheduled ship in that service.
If you have found the call sign for the ship, enter it into the Ship Tracker. If the ship has transmitted a weather report recently, the Ship Tracker will show the ship's last known position.
