Almost everything that our country makes or uses, arrives or leaves through a port.
Look around you. The computer you are using, your bike, cell phone, mp3 player, they all arrived in New Zealand aboard a ship.

Everything that we buy has to be paid for. If we buy from other countries, they expect to be paid for their goods.
So where do we get our money to buy these things we need? The answer is that we sell goods back to other countries.
