Reconfiguration of Oceania Vessel Sharing Agreement Service

Posted on 6th June 2007

Port of Tauranga announce that following a reconfiguration of the Oceania Vessel Sharing Agreement (OVSA) service they will receive an additional 26 vessel calls per annum. The OVSA comprises the following shipping lines; Hamburg Sud, Hapag-Lloyd, and Maersk Line.

The new fortnightly service configuration will provide a new southbound connection from the West Coast of the United States and Canada, direct to Tauranga, and then on to Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide, in Australia. A large component of the import cargo is expected to be destined for Auckland and demonstrates confidence in MetroPort - Port of Tauranga's inland terminal in South Auckland. Currently, 140,000 TEUs (twenty foot equivalent containers) are railed to and from MetroPort annually.
