Port of Tauranga Announces Change in Senior Management Team

Posted on 26th January 2010

Port of Tauranga today announced the appointment of Sara Lunam as Corporate Services Manager, replacing Terry James who retires in June after 13 years in the role.

Ms Lunam, who joins Port of Tauranga in March, will be responsible for staff development and training, health and safety, industrial relations, recruitment and administration. She will also represent the Company on regulatory matters.

Port of Tauranga Chief Executive, Mark Cairns, said Ms Lunam offered a wealth of commercial experience from a number of industries as well as in-depth knowledge of the ports sector. She has held senior management positions at BHP Transport in Australia and New Zealand, at TranzRail and New Zealand Railways.

She was chief executive of Carter Holt Harvey's Forest Fibre Solutions Division until 2001. Since then, Ms Lunam has operated a boutique consultancy, specialising in strategy development and implementation, performance analysis and merger and acquisition advice. In addition, Ms Lunam has held a number of directorships, including Port of Napier, New Zealand Post, Genesis Energy and New Zealand Merino.

"We're delighted to have someone of Sara's calibre on board," said Mr Cairns.

Mr Cairns paid tribute to Mr James, who already had extensive experience in forestry and port-related industries before taking on the Corporate Services position in 1997. "Terry's legacy is the strong culture of co-operation at the Port. Prior to joining the company, he also contributed significantly to waterfront reforms while on secondment from New Zealand Forest Products," said Mr Cairns. The establishment of the Port Users' Health and Safety Forum and a drastic reduction in accidents - to only one lost-time injury last year - were also among his significant achievements, he said.
