Notice of Strike Action
Posted on 26th April 2007
The Merchant Services Guild, representing pilots employed by Port of Tauranga, has served notice on the Company of the pilots’ intention to take strike action for 14 days commencing 0001 hours Tuesday 8 May.
Their action is taken in relation to bargaining for the renewal of their collective agreement and their salary claim which seeks parity with pilot rates paid in Australia. This represents a claim of almost 40% over existing pay rates and, equally important, requires acceptance of the importation of overseas cost structures into a completely different economic environment.
As the Port of Tauranga is an essential industry, both parties will be required to attend mediation and it is hoped that in that forum, the issues will be resolved.
