Ironwoman motivates Port customers
Posted on 3rd October 2005
Port of Tauranga has recruited a top motivational speaker to help increase customers’ involvement in the Port’s triathlon event held each January.
Tracey Richardson, well known for her own inspiring personal story and accomplishments as an ironwoman, has been talking to Port customers encouraging them to consider entering the 2006 triathlon.
Now an author and speaker, Tracey faced the daunting challenges of raising two children who suffer from cystic fibrosis, the breakdown of her marriage and the death of her father. Entering an ironman event was her way of overcoming those challenges.
Port of Tauranga Commercial Manager Graeme Marshall says customer participation in the event looks likely to be significantly increased from last year as a result of Tracey’s involvement.
“Tracey’s moving story is an example to everyone that all challenges, big or small, can be overcome with the right attitude,” he says.
“Tracey’s experience is a truly inspirational one, and I encourage all Port customers to challenge themselves and get involved, either as a competitor or a supporter.”
The Port of Tauranga has sponsored the triathlon for the last 12 years. Over this time the event has continually attracted the world’s leading triathletes, including top New Zealanders Cameron Brown and Samantha Warriner. Additionally, leading Olympians compete in their specialised disciplines as part of the teams section of the event.
The ‘Port of Tauranga Half’, which takes place around the spectacular setting of Mount Maunganui, involves three disciplines: a 2km swim, a 90km cycle and a 21km run.
The Port will pay for the cost of entry for the first 10 customer teams who register.
