Hamburg Sud Consolidates North Island NZ Calls at Tauranga

Posted on 28th March 2007

Hamburg Sud announced today that its Trident service will move its southbound call at New Zealand's North Island from Auckland to Tauranga. The change will consolidate both the southbound and northbound calls in Tauranga with effect from the Cap Saray Voy. 714S on May 11th.

The Trident service provides weekly departures linking North Europe, the East Coast of North America and Australia and New Zealand. Direct calls in Cartagena, Colombia, connect Trident with Hamburg Süd's Latin American service network, providing clients with unmatched port coverage throughout the Americas.

"Port of Tauranga Chief Executive Mark Cairns said Hamburg Sud's decision to make Tauranga the key New Zealand port for its Trident Service is great news. The combination of the South bound leg now calling at Tauranga instead of Auckland, and the Trident service moving weekly, is very positive for the port and importers and exporters in the region. Hamburg Sud's announcement also confirms the importance of our Auckland inland port - MetroPort. MetroPort has now grown to handle in excess of 120,000 TEU (twenty foot equivalent containers) per annum and provides direct access in and out of the Auckland market"
