ABB Grain Limited commits to a significant long-term partnership with Port of Tauranga Limited
ABB Grain Limited has committed to a 35-year lease with Port of Tauranga Limited and plans to construct on Port land a purpose-built 8,000m2 bulk storage facility, able to store more than 30,000 tonnes of grain and protein product.
The Port of Tauranga is the key New Zealand entry point for grain and protein imports. Protein imports, in particular, are growing rapidly: palm kernel (a stock feed supplement) has grown from virtually nothing three years ago to volumes exceeding 200,000 tonnes forecast through the Port this year.
The investment recognises the Port’s excellent infrastructure to handle large volumes of bulk cargo. The proposed facility will give ABB Grain the ability to distribute product into the Auckland market due to the Port’s superior road and rail links.
We welcome ABB Grain’s commitment to Tauranga through the investment they are making in the bulk storage facility.
